This is not the post I had originally intended to post today. I don’t want you all to get tired of our sunset pictures. But as I was staring directly into this sunset today (yes, I know, it’s not good for me, but it’s a hazard of taking photos of sunsets), I was finally able to capture one of the most elusive sunset phenomena ever. The Green Flash.
No it’s not a myth that they just made up for the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. It actually happens, and I now have photographic proof of it. And no, it’s not just a trick of my camera or lens, like a lens flare. Here, this is what Wikipedia has to say about it if you are really still doubting me.
I’ve tried many, many times in my life to just see it, let alone photograph it. And in the past 2 months, I’ve seen it twice. Successfully photographed it for the first time today. (Daylight Savings Time has its definite perks because I have time to get to my favorite sunset watching locations after work. Perfect end to the work day.)
Anyways, click on the image and look closely. Very closely. Click on the image, then click on it again to really zoom in. Just above the pool of light that is the sun gradually slipping away.
Thank you, and good night.
