Happy Chinese New Year!
Welcome (back) to the Year of the Snake! I say back for Sithara and me together because both of us were born in this auspicious year. (Definitely just gave away our ages there…sorry Sithara ;)
I want to wish you all a wonderful new year where all your wishes come true. At the moment, I’m a bit too exhausted and food-laden to post much more. But I will post a few times tomorrow (hopefully) with more Chinese New Year tidbits.
It’s my absolute favorite holiday of the year. It’s like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s all rolled into one for our family and for many Chinese families. So I might as well take this opportunity to shed some light on it this go around.
Tidbit #1: The first Chinese character/symbol you see here is actually the combination of four unique Chinese words. So actually, the symbol you see above is really just that. It’s not actually a character. It combines the words in this four-word saying 招財進寶. (See if you can find them hidden and interwoven), meaning something along the lines of “may you bring in great fortune” in the new year.
I hope that is true for all of you this year. Whatever the term “fortune” means to you.
Happy New Year! 新年快樂！
